An outstanding candidate for a Lead Systems Administrator position with great references, clear background, and security clearances was convicted of identity theft between the offer & start dates.

A candidate I placed at a client in Nashville, TN was a no show. We fronted him the money to get a U-Haul so he could transport his things. When he came up missing we began to get worried. It just so happens he ran the U-Haul off of a cliff because he was high and drunk. He was not injured, but as he was walking to get help a police officer picked him up. It seems the candidate smelled of marijuana pot and alcohol so they took him in and drug tested him. He was convicted of DUI and possession of marijuana.

When he was released on bail he called to let us know what happened. He claimed he was arrested because he was a minority and had not done anything wrong.

He asked if we still wanted him to start work at the client and of course we said "no". This was a Federal Government client.

What a mess:-)

I was working for a medical staffing company placing traveling xray techs all around the country when I received a call from a once satisfied client stating the CT tech who we place on temp assignment had shown up for work in homemade tied dyed scrubbs, a massive mane of dreads and smelling of a funny kind of smoke. To top this off it was in a very conservative area of Florida and the admin stated " he is scaring our patients" We had to let him go that day.

The best one I ever had was at a previous employer I was interviewing a candidate for a Director of Marketing position that we had open. The interview was going very well, everyone thought that he was an ideal fit having all the skills we were looking for. After the interview I closed him on his salary requirements and overall compensation plan and that went without a hitch as well.

As he was about to leave he asked to use the facilities before going to the airport for his trip home. He was in the restroom for a lengthy period of time and I became worried so I went in to see if anything was wrong. I found him laying on the floor passed out with a white powder all around his nose. He was doing a couple of lines of coke (his words) and he must of gotten a bad batch because he overdosed. Needless to say after rushing him to the hospital we decided that he wasn't the candidate we wanted in our company.

I had a candidate that I had worked with for several times in her career that did not show for an interview. There was no follow up as to what happened. About a month later, she called my office and said that she was taking the bus to the interview and fell off the the steps of the bus. She said that when she fell her dress went over her head and that she mooned everybody on Peachtree Steet. She said an ambulance was called & took her to the hospital. Needless to say, I laughed after I hung up the phone. I decided it was either the truth or the best lie I've ever heard by a candidate. I decided to believe her and placed her at full fee with another client.

Placed a medical professional management candidate with great references and awards plus muliple degrees. After many many months another candidate of mine who I had placed in the same program called me with a medical behavioral question. I told them to report it immediately and I did same to my contact who had hired my award winning management candidate. The award winning candidate I found out later on had assummed someone identity and was living in that person's life, medical license and credentials for more than 10 years. After they fled from the hospital program while they FBI was investigating them they fled to another state. The FBI couldn't find them....for 3 years. One day while recruiting in Colorado I ran across this person on the phone and they were using their middle name and same last name and working as a licensed medical professional. The person didn't remember me but I remembered them...I called the FBI and they got their man!

My first venture into securing non US candidates for Maquiladora operations on US/MEX border.....I arranged controller candidate to visit plant and meet with ops people and corporate staff, for a very conservative Tier 1 OEM..........part of my prep is dress, and I "used" to tell people dress in Sunday best, like going to church.... for good impression................WELL candidate arrived in what was described to me as ....black boots.......skin tight leather pants.......leather jacket..and red shiney shirt 30% unbuttoned...........
.......while he did get placed.........I changed my prep to allow for cultural differences

Scarry how so many of these comments are drug or criminally related.

Fortunately, our's is not, and simply a matter of dumb luck and (somewhat) trusting the claims of a potential candidate.

We specialise in the search for Supply Chain professionals. One of our clients was looking for a "Traffic Analyst." We ran our ads and fielded responses. We had a candidate call and swear up and down that THEY were the exact professional that our client was looking for. We were somewhat trusting, but deferred to asking the candidate to respond by sending in their resume right away.

When we received the (much anticipated) resume, we found that the person's claim to fame and expertise in a "Traffic Analyst" role was simply by PAINTING LINES ON THE HIGHWAY!

Hey, it's true because no one can make this 'stuff' up!

Cheers

I once received a resume from a 'seasoned' Public Relations Director submitting her candidacy for consideration. While reviewing her resume, I noticed her current title as "Director of Pubic Relations"... When contacting her, I made mention and directed her attention to this, in that she could make appropriate corrections. Needless to say that when I mentioned this there was a very long pause...dead silence on the other end of the line. This proves that it is not only important to spell check your resume, but also to prove read prior to distribution!
